This is the 1st Olympic Beach Volleyball Qualifier Tournament that Trinidad and Tobago are hosting.

The sport of Volleyball was brought to Trinidad and Tobago by Canadian Missionaries in the 1930’s and was predominantly played by the sugar plantation workers and their children. The game was first played at Naparima College again through the involvement of the Canadian Missionaries.

T&T Junior Men Force a Turn Around in CAZOVA 8th Junior Men Championship - Jamaica
After losing the first set to the US Virgin Islands (24-25), Trinidad and Tobago came back to win their first game (25-15), (25-18), (25-20) in the first four set match of the tournament lead by Brandon Legal (29 points) and Kevin James (13 points) USVI who lost to Barbados yesterday in three straight sets, started out this match on fire both on attack and defense. However, according to their Head Coach, Michael Richardson, “as the match wore on the guys lost concentration and began to make simple mistakes.” The Captain of Trinidad and Tobago, Ryan Thomas, “We realized that we started the game slow and a bit nervous but our entire team did well to change the match into our favour midway through the first set.” Their Coach, Gideon Dickson added “ we know that this is just the beginning and we have analyzed the areas that we need strengthening for the next game against Barbados. Even though we only played to about 60% - 70% of our ability, I still think we had a good overall performance.” Article by Kerish Maharaj
